Doesn’t it always seem to snow on Saturdays?
It’s 11:15pm on Saturday night. I’m trying to decide what to do still. The weather man just said that even church services that meet at 11am could have some driving problems.
The idea of canceling a church service doesn’t sit well with me. In seminary, Paige Patterson, the president of the seminary, constantly said never to cancel a church service. I understand why he said that. There is something very special every week about meeting together as the body of Christ. WE NEED IT.
This is why I have been so apprehensive about canceling the service. However, after much prayer and thought I have decided that we won’t have the service tomorrow (Jan 31).
However, just because we aren’t meeting doesn’t mean that we aren’t still the church. Also, it doesn’t mean that we can’t still study the Word of God together. Since we have this gift of technology, then let’s all do the same thing this week.
Here is what I want us to do this week as a church:
1. On Sunday, get your family together (or if you’re not married, grab some roommates) for an hour or so to read, pray and listen to a sermon.
2. Read Luke chapter 15.
3. Listen to this sermon (click here) by Matt Chandler called “The Trilogy”
4. Discuss with your family (or roommates) the applications this sermon has on you, your family and friends.
5. Sing some worship songs together and worship Christ together.
6. Close with a time of prayer asking Jesus to make these things you have discussed happen in your life.
This will serve as the text that we will study together as a church this week for community group.
We will resume services next week as scheduled with Ben Reinken preaching next Sunday. You can see the full service for this coming Sunday, February 7, here.
I love you guys and will miss you this week. See you next Sunday.
