Reading and Writing

I’m a terrible writer.

Writing has always been tough work for me.  Some people can sit down and write such eloquent things.  This doesn’t happen for me.  I don’t know which words to use.  I continually have to check my grammar.  I spend more time backspacing and rewriting than just typing my thoughts.  College and seminary were difficult because there were so many papers; just more writing!

But, you know what I did?  I wrote the papers anyway.

Some people use the excuse that they just aren’t a reader.  They don’t like to read.  That’s just not how they’re “wired”.  I don’t believe them.  They read EVERYDAY!  They read something.  They read the things they find interesting.  The things they don’t find interesting, they don’t read.  But they DO read.  They can’t say they don’t like reading.  That’s just untrue.
They read facebook, twitter, text messages, magazines, etc…  They read.

This excuse of not being a reader spills over into our walk with Christ.  They make the excuse of not reading their Bible by saying, “I’m just not a reader.”

But you know what?  You should read your Bible anyway.

If texts, facebook, twitter is interesting, then HOW MUCH MORE interesting should the God of the Universe’s WORDS to us be? Maybe it’s lack of love for reading, or lack of priorities, or lack of understanding that GOD wrote the Bible.  But, like college and seminary, you should read it anyway.

What I have found is this:  As I read the Scriptures, the desire & love for the Scriptures that I wished I had, comes THROUGH reading them.

Read the Word.  God will give you the desire for His Word and to read it.
