Insomnia

What is it that causes us not to be able to sleep at night?

Don’t you hate it when you go to bed a lay there for 2 hours, 3 hours and….nothing.  It drives me crazy.  All I want to do is go to sleep.  Why can’t I?  Then I think, “Is it God?  It is just me?  It is the pizza I had for dinner?”
I don’t know.
I do know I should be asleep right now and it just isn’t happening.

We sleep on average a 1/3 of our lives.  If we sleep 8 hours per night & that’s 1/3 of the day, that means we sleep 1/3 of our lives.  Some have tried to defy this.  They don’t want to “miss” life, so they defy the odds and sleep less; just to “live life” more than others.  This is ok, perhaps.

But what if God was trying to say something to us by making us creatures who require sleep?
What if He were trying to show us that while we sleep, He never does?  That He doesn’t need us like we think He needs us?

And that He shows us His omnipotence and His sovereignty by ruling and reigning over ALL creation, while we sleep.

He doesn’t need us.  He did not have to create anything in order to be self-sustained.
But, we need Him.  We depend on His absolute rule and reign over all things.

We need Him when our marriage is hard (or good), we need Him when raising our children is hard (or easy), we need Him when our job is difficult (or easy), we need Him when our health is poor (or good).  You get the idea…

Having to have sleep daily is God’s good gift to us to remind us how utterly dependent we are on Him to continue running the universe, while we keep our eyes closed and rest.  He is so good to us.
