Proverbs 1:7 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
This hit me like a ton of bricks. My own sin and selfishness, my secret and evil desires, and prideful ambitions… then this verse. I don’t fear God like I should. None of us do, but I could possibly be the worst. It is the blatant sin I commit that weighs most heavily upon my heart in light of these words. God’s Spirit stirs in me and convicts and leads me toward holiness and Christ-likeness and I deliberately choose the opposite direction so often. I weigh consequences and outcomes of my sin and decide what I will or will not do based on the consequences. This is not how it should be. My right-doing should be based on the fear of God: my creator and the judge of my heart. I should constantly realize the grandness of Jesus who has saved me and choose to serve and live for him, dying to myself. Because of God’s wrath to come for the sin of the world, how great is his grace for those being saved!!! (check out Romans 9:22-23) And what an evil heart indeed it must take to recognize this even now and choose to sin against my loving Lord and Savior. Grace abounds, however, and leads me to repentance and sanctification in Christ. Hallelujah and praise God for the blood of Christ which covers all of my sin!
The following is a video of an interview with Aaron Weiss, lead singer of mewithoutYou. They have been one of my top three favorite bands for a couple of years now. Musically, excellent. Lyrically, the man is a genius. He seems genuine and legit and seems like a man who has been changed by the love of Christ. Judge for yourself. Vocally, it takes some getting used to and many will write him off almost immediately. I think he’s tremendous.
