You can prepare for this

You can prepare for this Sunday’s service by listening to these songs and reading through this text. As a church we are continuing to memorize 1 John so that we can “Let the word of Christ dwell in [us] richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in [our] hearts to God.” as Paul admonishes us in Colossians 3:16. This will cause verse 17 to be true of us: “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

I’m looking forward to worshipping Jesus with you. Please pray for the service. Ask that God would send His Spirit, that Jesus may be glorified through song and the preaching of the Word and how we speak to and love one another. Pray that the lost would be saved by Jesus to the glory of God. Pray that affections would be stirred and hearts would be moved to love Jesus and live for Him. I love you all very much.

This Sunday we begin our

This Sunday we begin our journey, verse by verse, through the book of 1 John. Last Sunday Phud introduced us to the book and highlighted some things for us to anticipate as we study. I would encourage everyone to continue to press on and work diligently as we memorize the first six verses of chapter 1 this week. Remember the IMPORTANCE of Scripture memorization and don’t miss this opportunity. Two reasons why God says it is important:

1. Your personal walk. Remember David’s words in Psalm 119 (the longest chapter in the Bible devoted to the glory of the WORD of God) “I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you” (Psalm 119:11). When Jesus was tempted by Satan, he fought and resisted with Scripture (Luke 4:1-13). Ephesians 6:17 calls the Word a SWORD. Know it and use it.

2. It benefits the body of which you are a part and for whom Christ died. We can put the issues of 1 John into practice as we love one another. “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” (Colossians 3:16).

Here’s the plan for this Sunday:

Confession by Mars Hill Music

Sermon: 1 John 1:1-4

Our Redemption by Remedy Music
How Great Thou Art (Public Domain)
Here is Love by Mars Hill Music
Alas! and Did My Savior Bleed by Sojourn Music

Sending: Go and Send and Pray (Music and arrangement by Remedy Music)

A note on the new song, “Confession.” The lyrics echo Paul’s lament in Romans 7. Read through that chapter this week when you get the chance. We can all relate to Paul as he cries in verses 21-25,
“21 So I find it to be a law that when I want to do right, evil lies close at hand. 22 For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, 23 but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. 24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.”
Though we are redeemed and regenerated by the Holy Spirit to love Jesus and delight in God’s law, we have an entire life of sin to leave behind and our bodies have to leave behind the evil habits which once controlled us. This is not easily and quickly done. Sanctification is a long process and it is a struggle while we are still in our sinful bodies to always and constantly honor Christ. “Confession” moves lyrically from a place of despair to eventually a place of rejoicing in the freedom bought for us only by the blood of Jesus. Jesus became sin for us so that we would be forgiven of all of our sin past, present future. As Christians, we are already righteous in Christ but are not yet perfected until the day of redemption. Therefore, we move from singing the first verse,

“I am obstinate, my neck an iron tendon
My head is like a stone, I want to do what I want
Wretched, wretched, bound, gagged and shackled
You give, You give life, I ignore it”

To the final chorus,

“Chains are broken, I’ve been chosen
Sin is put to death, is put to death!”

Amen. Live in the Gospel this week. It is ALWAYS ALL about Jesus.

Love

Cameron

Each week our desire is for you to be as prepared as possible as we gather together as a congregation to worship our Lord Jesus. We want you to know the songs we will sing corporately, what verses we will be reading and studying ahead of time and how to prepare. All of this is an effort for you to worship Christ and have your heart prepared to see and savor Him.
Get plenty of sleep on Saturday night, wake up early on Sunday with a nice cup of coffee and your Bible. Spend some time reading the Scriptures and praying that morning for Christ to reveal Himself to you in His Word. Come expecting to worship Him and to desire to have places in your life shown that need to be sanctified and ready to give those areas over willingly.
This week, on Sunday December 20th & December 24th, in accordance with the holidays, we will be looking at Philippians 2:1-11 in a 2-part sermon.
Christmas is the season we celebrate the birth of Jesus. This is when God became incarnate. These verses in Philippians speak about the incarnation of Jesus. This Christmas, we’ll take a little bit of a different look than usual at the birth of our Savior. We’ll look at Philippians 2 and His incarnation, and what that means for us during this holiday season and all year round.

Message

Blessed Be Your Name- Matt Redman

You Never Let Go- Matt Redman

All Because of Jesus- Fee

You Are God- Charlie Hall

1 Samuel 12:19-25:

19 And all the people said to Samuel, “Pray for your servants to the Lord your God, that we may not die, for we have added to all our sins this evil, to ask for ourselves a king.” 20 And Samuel said to the people, “Do not be afraid; you have done all this evil. Yet do not turn aside from following the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart. 21 And do not turn aside after empty things that cannot profit or deliver, for they are empty. 22 For the Lord will not forsake his people, for his great name’s sake, because it has pleased the Lord to make you a people for himself. 23 Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by ceasing to pray for you, and I will instruct you in the good and the right way. 24 Only fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart. For consider what great things he has done for you. 25 But if you still do wickedly, you shall be swept away, both you and your king.”

I have been reading the book of 1 Samuel for the past week or so. I have been pretty amazed so far at the words on these pages. My lack of reverence, fear, and love for God have been revealed to me in a deeper way and at the same time my understanding of the grace and love of God for me has been more greatly realized. This passage sums it all up for me and leaves me in awe of Jesus, humbled by God in heaven sending His only Son to die on a sinner’s cross in my place. This is love realized.

The people of Israel did not just turn to another king who deceived them into believing lies. They demanded that Samuel appoint for them a king. They insisted that they knew best and directly asked for someone other than the Lord to be ruler over them. They wanted to be as every other nation ruled by a man. Rejecting God, turning to earthly security. This is us every single moment of every day of our lives. We turn and run headlong into sin and into temporary, false security away from life and love. Away from Jesus. The King of all has been cast aside in our hearts and we have requested our own kings to lead us and satisfy our wants and desires. I know this breaks God’s heart. He is terribly jealous for us as His bride and His people and we want nothing to do with Him. While we are in this dead state, He sends His Son to live a perfect life and die in love on a cross. I pray that our hearts at Remedy Church are MOVED GREATLY by this saving, redeeming love. This is how we know love! Our Lord and King has restored us to Himself! I pray that our worship in a corporate setting and individually as we spend time with Christ reflects this. Only fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart. For consider what great things he has done for you! (vs 24)

Pray for the launch this Sunday and invite everyone to come! Glory to Christ!

Invite friends and family to come; everyone is welcome! Go to www.remedychurch.org for directions, launch details, small group information, or just to see our awesome new website designed by Ben Reinken, Remedy’s Creative Director. It was incredible, but have no fear if you missed it because we recorded it and will have the teaching available via Podcast via subscription via iTunes as soon as we get that up and running. For now, wait in anticipation. We packed out the room for the last monthly meeting of this semester in preparation for the launch on January 25th. I am really amped about the upcoming launch and the things God is doing now to get us ready to go in January. There is a lot of work and thought going into the launch date by everyone involved and I hope everyone is praying pretty heavily for the church. It is going to be a crazy ride and prayer is needed for so many reasons. I find myself convicted about this need to pray more. Please pray for us as we prepare, that we would be careful in our ways and always relying on the grace of God to do these things and not our own strength (which will not get us very far, if anywhere). Also, pray for the city of Rock Hill, that God would continue to bring people in and that as we lift up the banner of Jesus Christ in this city, all men would be drawn to him. I want to see people come to know Christ and more than anything I would hate to see our church grow at other church’s expense. We want converts. God is faithful and I know that He will guide us, humble us, and grow us through this. For now, we make all of our decisions to glorify the name of Jesus and see His kingdom furthered specifically in the city of Rock Hill. I am so excited!!! Merry Christmas everyone. And here is the set list from December 13th:

It was great to see everyone at the most recent Remedy worship night. For those of you who don’t know, we are gathering once a month this fall semester to bring together the somewhere around five small groups in existence. Hopefully this gives the people involved or wanting to be involved with Remedy an idea of what the church will be and a sense of belonging to a church body bigger than they can see right now.

I will be posting set lists on here in the future to give an idea of what songs we sing and why. I want to try to provide some insight into those sets and give an overview of the reasoning behind them. Here’s the set from Saturday, November 15th:

Heart of Worship- Tim Hughes

Found- Hillsong United

Center- Charlie Hall

Til I See You- Hillsong United

Everything- Tim Hughes

Hosanna- Hillsong United

I thank God for the night of worship we had and the things done in our hearts. I am currently praying for God to provide band members. I trust this will happen in His time and according to His plan and I want to be able to discern what will be best for the church. My hope is to build off of what we do not have from within the church, no matter how long that may take. I would appreciate prayers for faith and discernment throughout this process for sure. I am thankful for the provision of Ben, a longtime friend of mine and excellent musician. God has gifted him and I am blessed to start off playing with him. I am expectant of the things to come. God is faithful!

Lamentations 3:22-23

Stay tuned for the December worship night!
