Proskuneo

I am going to be preaching about worship in a few weeks.  We are calling the night “Proskuneo”.  Proskeneo is the Greek word for worship.  One place it is used is in John 4.  This is when Jesus talks to the woman at the well about worship.  The word proskuneo historically can be defined as to come forward and kiss the hand of one in reverence.  It is also to fall upon the ground on ones knees, with your forehead to the ground expressing profound reverence.  This image is amazing when I think about what worship should actually look like in a corporate setting.

Romans 11:33-36 is an amazing text.  Paul has just unpacked some of the deepest, most profound, most amazing theological truths in chapters 8-11.  After this Paul must stop and worship.  He takes a break from writing just to give praise to God.  The words he writes are simply remarkable.  In Paul’s worship he tells us that no one can know God fully or give Him anything where God would need to repay them.  Then incredibly, in verse 36 Paul says, “For from him and through him and to him are all things.  To him be glory forever.  Amen.”  WOW!  From Him are all things.  Through Him are all things.  And to Him are all things.  Our worship that we give to Him first comes from Him, through Him then back to Him.  Even our worship we give Him comes from Him first!  So He truly is worthy of all worship.
