Worship

For those of you who missed this most recent Remedy worship night, it was an awesome night of teaching providing for a great response in worship. Phud taught on the topic of worship coming out of Psalm 63. It was incredible, but have no fear if you missed it because we recorded it and will have the teaching available via Podcast via subscription via iTunes as soon as we get that up and running. For now, wait in anticipation. We packed out the room for the last monthly meeting of this semester in preparation for the launch on January 25th. I am really amped about the upcoming launch and the things God is doing now to get us ready to go in January. There is a lot of work and thought going into the launch date by everyone involved and I hope everyone is praying pretty heavily for the church. It is going to be a crazy ride and prayer is needed for so many reasons. I find myself convicted about this need to pray more. Please pray for us as we prepare, that we would be careful in our ways and always relying on the grace of God to do these things and not our own strength (which will not get us very far, if anywhere). Also, pray for the city of Rock Hill, that God would continue to bring people in and that as we lift up the banner of Jesus Christ in this city, all men would be drawn to him. I want to see people come to know Christ and more than anything I would hate to see our church grow at other church’s expense. We want converts. God is faithful and I know that He will guide us, humble us, and grow us through this. For now, we make all of our decisions to glorify the name of Jesus and see His kingdom furthered specifically in the city of Rock Hill. I am so excited!!! Merry Christmas everyone. And here is the set list from December 13th:

The Weight

Hebrews 13:17 says,
Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.

One of the most common ways we hear this verse taught is for people to submit to their leaders.  This is because the sentence is written to the people.  However, as a leader, I read it a different way.  (As I’m sure most leaders do)

I hear it, “Phud, you are to keep a watch over their souls.  You will give an account.

That haunts me.  It keeps me awake at night.  There is a weight here.  A massive weight, that if a pastor does not feel this, if it doesn’t keep him awake at night knowing that he must keep watch over their souls, that he will have to stand before God and give an account for their souls, if he doesn’t feel this massive weight, then, he should not be a pastor.
Further, IF we must keep watch over their souls and IF we must give an account, then what does this say that our ministry should be made up of?
It cannot be made up of games, jokes, silliness and egos.  It must be shaped by the Word of God.

Christ must be preached.  Christ must be prized.  Christ must be treasured.  The Gospel must be proclaimed.
Our worship must be authentic.  Our lives must be lived with intensity.  We must walk daily with the sobering thought that there are people around us who will spend an eternity in conscious eternal torment without Christ.  We must reach them.  We must be willing to give ourselves away for them.  We must live in such a way that we HATE our sin and wage war against it and by the Spirit put our sin to death.

James 3:1 tells us clearly,
Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.

There is a weight.  If you are a leader, then do you feel it?

Next one…

Remedy Church’s next and last fall service will be on Saturday, December 13 at 6pm at North Rock Hill Church.  We would love for you to come.  We will be taking up another offering which 100% will be given away to the community (more on that to come).
I haven’t really said ahead of time what I am going to be speaking about.  The first month we talked about absolute necessity of our involvement in the community.  The second time we talked about our responsibility to evangelize every opportunity we get.  This last time we will be talking about worship.  God has totally been shaping my heart for this sermon.  It has been difficult and convicting and precious and sweet and beautiful and painful.  If you are having trouble worshiping or having trouble understanding worship, come.
